In a salt water pool system, salt cells are used to sanitize the pool water. Chlorine is made right in the pool by a salt cell and works by changing the salt that is added to pool water, into chlorine through the process of electrolysis. Salt water pools are known to have softer, silkier water, and don't have the same chemical smell that may be irritating. However, salt systems will not generate chlorine in cold weather- typically below 50-60 degrees.
